SANGI's nano<mHAP>, known as 'Medical Hydroxyapatite' in Japan, was approved as an anti-caries agent by Japanese health authorities as early as1993. Based on data from laboratory research and field trials, they recognized three ways in which it helps reduce tooth decay: (1) by adhering to and helping remove decay-causing bacteria and dental plaque, (2) by filling and repairing microscopic fissures on the tooth surface which form a breeding ground for plaque-forming bacteria, and (3) by remineralizing areas below the tooth surface from which mineral has been dissolved out by acids from plaque and foods - areas known as 'incipient caries' and which can lead to tooth decay unless the lost mineral is restored by our saliva or from other sources.

Teeth at all ages require a constant supply of mineral, but especially children's teeth. In newly erupted teeth, the enamel is still not completely mineralized; it relies on a constant supply of calcium and phosphate from saliva to reach full mineral density and strength. This makes children's early teeth especially vulnerable to acid attack and development of caries. By augmenting saliva's natural supply of tooth mineral, SANGI's ingredient nano<mHAP> supports the maturation of children's teeth, and protects against tooth decay - as shown by clinical trials in Japanese primary schools over a number of years. Some of SANGI's products, including our mouth rinse and children's toothpaste, contain the natural sweetener xylitol, for additional anti-caries protection. But fluoride is not used in any of SANGI's products, because it isn't necessary. Nano<mHAP>, by supplying tooth mineral, directly achieves the same level of remineralization as fluoride, which relies on external sources of mineral, indirectly does.
